Insiders and politicians ranked by their historical returns, computed from real disclosed trades and real historical closing prices — not a curated "best of" list, just sorted by performance over the longest horizon each person has enough history for.
These numbers are indicative, not audited performance figures. Insider entry prices are the exact per-share price filed on the SEC Form 4. Politicians only disclose a dollar range, never an exact price, so their entry price is approximated as the stock's closing price on the disclosed trade date.
Exit prices at each horizon (and "Lifetime," which runs from the trade date to today) use real historical closing prices. A horizon only appears once a trade is actually old enough for it — a trade from 3 months ago has no 1y or 5y figure yet. Insider history is backfilled from OpenInsider's last 5 years of filings; politician history depends on how far back Capitol Trades' own disclosure records go, which is typically far shorter. Both keep filling in as this page recomputes over time.
Some SEC filings tagged "Purchase" are technical or related-party transactions — option conversions, negotiated private placements — filed at a price far from the open market. Those are excluded rather than shown as a distorted "return."
